The January Edition - 21 Tacoma Events!

It’s time for us to wish you happiness at the start of a new year. And we do! We wish you happiness, new or continued. As you venture into 2019, if there’s a part of you saying “I want to do something new,” maybe you’ll find it here. Or, it could be you just want to keep-on keeping-on. That’s good too! This list invites you to take a day, or maybe a few weeks, or just an hour or two to step into the Tacoma community. Who knows what you’ll find.

1. New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge at Point Defiance Marina

Tuesday, January 1st

  • 10:30 am registration, 11:30 am Cub Plunge (ages 10 and under), 12:30 pm Polar Bear Plunge

  • Heated tent, changing tents, hot drinks, and snacks for plungers

  • Lifeguards and SCUBA rescue swimmers on duty

  • $5 Polar Plunge t-shirts (these could go quickly!)

2. New Year’s Day First Tuesdays at Fawcett Hall with Yoga Wild

Tuesday, January 1st
7:30 - 8:45 pm

  • Evening yoga flow with live acoustic music by Big Sky Mind

3. Paint to Learn! at Tacoma Art Museum

  • Paint and develop math readiness skills to help kids be Kindergarten math ready

4. Butchering and Curing Workshop at Fort Nisqually Living History Museum

6. Engaging Businesses & Community in Ending Human Trafficking with Washington Trafficking Prevention

8. Family Saturdays at the History Museum: Coast Salish Culture

  • Included with price of admission - $14 for adults, $11 for ages 6 - 17, Free for ages 5 and under, or $40 for family of up to 2 adults and 4 children under 18, Free for members

  • Activities designed for kids ages 4 to 12 - all are welcome

10. Portland Cello Project: Radiohead’s OK Computer at the Rialto Theater

18. Tacoma Tool Library Fix-it Fair at Second Use

  • Volunteers are going to be ready to do their best to fix your item - Fix-it Fairs loves to know what you’re bringing ahead of time so volunteers can be prepared with the proper tools and supplies

  • This is a monthly event that changes location each month to keep it accessible

  • What kind of items? Jewelry, crockery, small appliances, clothing, toys, furniture

  • Browse Second Use’s wide inventory of building materials, hardware, appliances, and fixtures

  • Bring donations of clothing, appliances, and unwanted items in good shape for Chaya Boutique and Big Brother Big Sister

19. ”We’re Better Together” The 31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration by the City of Tacoma
