Hello! We’re Duggan Homes; thanks for stopping by.
Duggan Homes is our family business. Michael is a dedicated Realtor who works with home buyers and sellers in Tacoma and its surrounding areas, like Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula. Michael has closed over 250 purchases and sales with our clients. Gretchen is our Duggan Homes Marketing, Communications & Creativity Department. In our work and in our lives we value compassion, integrity, kindness, generosity, and open-heartedness.
Meet Michael
Advisor and advocate, that’s who Michael works to be for our clients. He maintains a position among the top Tacoma and Pierce County Realtors by not only understanding what makes a good offer and how to present it well, but also by acting with calm and patience throughout transactions, approaching negotiations as a mediator, skillfully ensuring fair and positive outcomes for all parties with our own clients’ needs and goals at the forefront. Michael’s practical knowledge of houses, gained through hands-on renovation work (as well as attending hundreds of inspections!) is helpful to buyers as they evaluate the condition of a home, and to sellers as they consider which projects to tackle before putting a house on the market. Changing your housing situation can be a necessity, but is very often related to goals. Michael’s role is to help clients assess what’s possible, and determine what the next good step toward a goal might be. Sometimes that means not moving, not buying, not selling, and we’re happy with that whenever it’s best for you. We’ll still be here when you’re ready!
Meet Gretchen
With a degree in writing (and a minor in Publishing & Printing Arts), alongside a background in office administration and customer service, Gretchen’s focus in the business is storytelling and connection. You see her work in the presentation of Duggan Homes listings, in community features written for our Tacoma Blog, in our monthly newsletter, and in the handmade cards you might find in your mailbox. Gretchen works to illuminate each home we sell by writing about them with depth and dignity, hoping to reach buyers who will love a home at least as much as the people preparing to pass it on. She creates a piece that serves not only as a powerful marketing tool, but as a love letter of sorts. As with the best love letters, the language we use about your home will not make empty promises, it will be honest, and in that honesty it will celebrate the good in who your home is and can be.
Values
We both know “doing well for yourself” is not the pinnacle of life. The general idea can be summed up in a few short phrases like: it’s not all about you, other people matter, and love your neighbor. Just like everyone who believes those things, we can struggle to know the best way to live. There are a million and one things to care about, to fight for, to donate to, to learn, and it can feel complicated. But it can be simple too: be kind, share what you have, try to understand, and try not to dismiss or condemn what you don’t quite understand. If you have similar thoughts, we’d probably work pretty well together.
We base Duggan Homes at Windermere Abode, a local, community-focused brokerage owned by Anne and Dave Jones, recognized as the 2020 Inman Person of the Year for their leadership in social justice and equity work within the industry. Windermere Abode supports us with invaluable mentoring, continuing education, professional file management, access to legal counsel, and avenues for community support through service opportunities and the Windermere Foundation. In our brokerage we’re encouraged to live our values, we know Black Lives Matter, we grapple with lack of affordable housing, we strive to understand and eradicate racist and exclusionary housing policy, and we seek to do better in our business.
Giving Back
As part of Windermere, we share a portion of our commission for every home our clients buy or sell with the Sam Smith “Hi Neighbor” Homeownership Fund to reduce barriers to Black homeownership in WA State, and with the Windermere Foundation. The Windermere Foundation is a non-profit supporting other agencies serving low-income families and people experiencing homelessness by providing food, emergency assistance, children’s programs, shelter, and other services in ten states, including Washington. At Windermere Abode, we get to choose where our office directs the funds we and the rest of the Abode Realtors contribute. Since Abode is all about local community, we fit right in here.
As Duggan Homes, because we live in and love Tacoma—and directly benefit from working here—we also want to give directly to organizations and programs supporting our community. We strive to contribute in a way that reflects our values, sharing resources to support local affordable housing, human rights, child welfare, food stability, education, equity, and the arts. Our hope has been not only to donate funds, but also to raise awareness about some of the very good work going on locally by sharing about a different non-profit each month in our newsletter, offering readers the opportunity to give alongside us.
You might also have a little fun reading about our ongoing Duggan, Brooks & Books project and book drive (begun in 2019) to support Little Free Libraries in some of Tacoma’s neighborhoods where it’s not as easy to access a public library.
